Biography
I've been into photography for most of my life but it wasn't until I started "making" pictures that I realized it was an art in itself. So whether I'm photographing a concert, working with a model, or just trying to find beauty or sex appeal in a moment of time... well, I think Sophia Loren summed it up best. She said "sex appeal is fifty percent what you've got and fifty percent what people think you've got"
For me, it began while working on a variety of television and film sets. I saw the difference between a properly lighted set and one that wasn't. Having worked with many different gaffers and some of the best "best boys" in the film industry, there's no difference between the elements of lighting whether on a TV show, feature movie, or a model shoot. Poor lighting makes for poor product. When the time came to change from film to digital in my photography, I was recovering from a nasty fall on a movie set that shattered my elbow in nine places along with other injuries and forced me to have a prosthetic implanted and to reevaluate what next in life. I found the answers while recovering on South Beach where I hooked up with some remarkable photographers - namely Raoul Minsart, Alana Wesley White, and Michael McCabe - all of whom, forgive the pun, "in one fashion or another" - took me under their wings and handed me the tools to take my photography to a new and incredibly beautiful level.
So I consider myself fortunate to have had the experience of lighting and to have been mentored by some of the best photographers in the business. To Raoul - a three-time Cleo-winning genius - my thanks to his generosity in sharing his unique approach to detail. To his incredibly talented wife, Alana, a renowned model/photographer in her own right, my thanks for helping me achieve the best results from the models I've worked with. And to Michael, I couldn't have done it without his patience in showing me how to fine-tune my art.
Working abroad in Spain, Italy, and Morocco during the summer months, I have been able - working on editorial shoots - to expand on my perpective and incorporate the European flavor into some of my work. And today, national and international magazines are using my work.
Last but not least, I also want to thank Daisy - Raoul and Alana's pet "Pug" - for graciously allowing me to photograph her with only one good arm and not charging me her usual $65 hourly rate. Thanks Daisy!
